Nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer que la prochaine séance du séminaire doctoral commun de l’IFRAE (Axe III) et du GSRL se tiendra le 15 juin, de 16h à 18h, dans la salle 17 de la Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, au 54 boulevard Raspail, 75006 Paris. Il s’agira de la dernière avant les vacances d’été. Cette fois-ci, M. Yin Tianjie 殷天傑(GSRL) nous présentera ses recherches en cours. Actuellement doctorant à l’EPHE sous la direction de M. Vincent Goossaert, il porte également un intérêt particulier aux humanités numériques. Cette démarche interdisciplinaire l’a conduit à développer une approche originale pour l’étude de la reconstruction du panthéon taoïste du Tonnerre, dans une intervention intitulée :

« Reconstruction of the Daoist Thunder Pantheon around Puhua Tianzun: Named Entity Recognition and Character-Level Proximity Analysis »

Résumé : This study examines the relational structure of the Daoist Thunder Pantheon centered on Puhua Tianzun (普化天尊) through character-based measurements of textual proximity in Chinese ritual texts. Taking the Thunder Administration (Leibu 雷部) as a case study, it focuses on the marshals associated with Puhua Tianzun in a corpus of 314 Daoist ritual texts, totaling 1,267,334 Chinese characters. After lexical filtering based on the main appellations of Puhua Tianzun, the analysis is conducted on a targeted subcorpus of 91 texts, in which 4,402 occurrences of divine entities were validated and normalized. The method combines named entity recognition, intra-textual distance measurement, co-occurrence grouping within a ±150-character window, and intertextual aggregation. Based on 182 identified Thunder Marshals, the study proposes an exploratory ranking and a visualization of textual relations around Puhua Tianzun. The results highlight a relational core among the ten highest-ranking Thunder Marshals according to the proposed proximity-based indicators. This core partly overlaps with rankings found in secondary literature, while also revealing significant divergences. These divergences are not treated as a direct refutation of doctrinal or historiographical traditions; rather, they are interpreted as textual indicators that guide further qualitative investigation into the roles, ritual contexts, and associations of Thunder deities. The contribution of this study is therefore twofold: it proposes a reproducible method for analyzing relations among divine entities in unsegmented Chinese texts, and it provides an exploratory basis for reassessing the composition of the Thunder Pantheon through observable regularities in ritual sources.
