Résumé

"Is Mongolia relevant to the succession of the next Dalai Lama amid the current opposing positions of the U.S. and China? If so, what stance could Mongolia take on this issue? These questions emerged after Mongolia secured its Buddhist leader, the Tenth Jebtsundamba Khutugtu, in 2016. The seminar will discuss why Mongolia is moving toward reinstating the pre-socialist Mongolian Buddhist institution–the Jebtsundamba Khutugtu institution, in the post-socialist era. Furthermore, it will examine to what extent the Jebtsundamba Khutugtu may or may not play a role in the selection of the next Dalai Lama."
